Rules of dating multiple men

The other men or women that you’re going out with simultaneously are a taboo topic, and I personally don’t know how to handle myself in a situation where it comes up.

One of my favorite things about online dating is swapping horror stories of past dates, but there’s a difference between sharing your history and sharing your present.

My friend P (and no, her real name is not just a letter but if you're friends with P, then you're friends with me) put it best.

"Assume people are sleeping with other people unless they ask or say otherwise," she says. What do I say to a partner when things are starting to get more serious with that other person?

All of that is expected and normal and nothing to be fussy about.

What isn’t expected, though, is to discuss the other dates.

However, you'll need to behave honestly and ethically to make it work.

There are certain unspoken rules when it comes to online dating, and I think one stands out to me in particular.

I think it’s reasonable to expect that through the course of a courtship, one person shines through and the rest slough off as a strong, monogamous relationship is formed. The first rule of online dating: don’t talk about online dating. When we’re going out on first date after first date, there will likely be some overlap. This also helps me keep perspective on all of the different men so it can be easier when it’s time to really narrow it down to one. When handled correctly, dating multiple men can be a wonderful experience; it can help you keep perspective, and your chances of feeling any sort of desperation are minimized.
